Ways to squeeze energy from different situations, objects, and encounters. This is a broken/ hacked instruction manual for other methods of generating or finding energy in motion. (I like to think of broken as a hacking response to a system that barely works.)

Before we proceed, you must ensure you are well hydrated and in no rush to find answers because, in truth, we will never have the answers (much less the right ones).

1. first,and foremost, try not to look at your phone the entire time you’re reading this manual or while observing the pieces of art around you. Immerse yourself in the works without exhaustion (I know it’s hard; as Wasted Rita says: “The internet killed my ability to enjoy art centers”).

2. question notions of work, pleasure and leisure. Question politics of representation and creation. It’s not about having answers, but question yourself; there is so much energy in the question.

3. mentally, choose a machine you’re curious about and imagine it with non-functional materials, turning it into a rare and delicate or disjointed object

4. choose barriers, divisions, or borders you would burn down forever.

5. wrap your most confusing anxieties and emotions with red tape, and let them melt away until they disappear.

6. remember that we are bodies of water; we float, sink, melt, and sweat whenever we navigate or connect. Dive in and rest.

7. today, at sunset, feel it as if it were the apocalyptic beginning of another world

8. finally, wake up, pinch yourself, and remember your privilege
